The most lasting memory of this book is the way in which the central character's feelings are so clearly conveyed. Abby's father, a selfish but charismatic man, leaves the family to live with another woman. Abby must come to terms with the grief, humiliation and anger which this arouses. She finds a confidante in Kit, a fellow student, but as they get closer he begins to make physical demands of her which she cannot answer. A convincing narration of teenage anguish and one which will communicate clearly with young people who find themselves in this situation.
