Moonglow

This slim tale is a kind of ghost story, where the ghost is a golden horse, a brilliant circus performer from 50-odd years ago, whose return to the field of his last performance heralds the death of his devoted trainer and owner, now a frail old man. His young friend, Nick, is the one who sees the apparitions and is spooked by the beast's incomparable loveliness, which intensifies daily as Mr O'Hanlon tells the story of times past and circus days all but forgotten. Hard to place but a useful read for thoughtful youngsters.
