Anxiety to discover the outcome of Granny Apple's desperate predicament rather spoilt this for me. I worried about the moral implications of Matt's behaviour all the way through. The outcome did little to relieve my concern and I was left wondering how much personal discovery had taken place. A disturbing book that is vivid and tense, demanding an emotional response from the reader. Brilliantly crafted it will provoke much thought and discussion about the vulnerabilty of, and the caring for, elderly members of the family in society. I admit I appreciated its plot and structure more, the second time I read it.
