The Autumn term is fraught for Angie (Angel) Crockford and her twin Billy; the temporary headmistress has a down on them and their beloved railway, 'The Somerset and Dorset', is threatened by the Beeching Axe. This will do them out of a home when their father will cease to be a signalman. The only bright spots are a chance meeting with a blind lady and a spectacular televised solo in a Christmas church service. Readers of a certain age (mine!) will appreciate the peppering of sixties detail but modern-day youngsters might find it a bit bewildering. It's a gentle tale which should strike chords amongst a wide audience, especially of thoughtful readers.
