A lovely book: beautifully written, clearly printed and charmingly illustrated. The idea of an American parrot living with an English family may not seem particularly engaging; but Madison is no ordinary parrot (he's been taught to talk and think) so life with him is never dull. in addition to the fun and good humour Dick King-Smith had some thoughtful things to say about the way humans run our world, and the pathos of Harry's search for the missing Madison is very affecting. A winner, one I'll share with the class and put in the bookshop.
