The Grimm Vice is Avarice and it prompts three conspirators to arrange a wealthy Singapore merchant's murder in order to rob his son ---unwisely left in England with his dead wife's family --- of the inheritance. Luckily for Martin, his father's business associates feel honour-bound to foil the plot. Through the comedy undercuts the thriller elements and the construction creaks in places, William Browning writes well and, with his large cast of grotesque caricature Victorians, is quite funny at times. But it's sophisticated, minority interest stuff; no more general use than Garfield. Here's talent needing good editorial advice on subject matter; fingers crossed.
