Zita is a new goose on the farm. The other geese all walk in step to the pond, but she just can’t do it like them. Tearfully, Zita resigns herself to a life of isolation. But her offbeat noises make the other animals join in with her beat, making musical improvisations. Zita becomes very popular and the snooty leader of the geese, Igor, gets his comeuppance. The well crafted, humorous illustrations in a muted palette perfectly convey Zita’s highs and lows and the happiness of the dancing animals. The text is funny and, importantly, can be read more than once in one sitting without becoming tedious or repetitive.
