Rabbits don’t have a big noise of their own, so Little Rabbit likes to MOO instead, much to the consternation of Calf. Soon the pair is enjoying a good loud BAAA together and one noise leads to another as each imitated animal joins in with Little Rabbit’s impersonations. However, when Duck wants to know about their favourite animal sound, things revert to normal – well not quite.

This book is a brilliant demonstration of how, in the right hands, a simple dialogue and vocabulary, and a patterned predictable text can be combined to tell a REAL story of wit and humour. There is an economy of line and colour too, in Allen’s portrayal of the farm animals and their unrestrained noise making, which is reproduced in large speech bubbles. Absolutely guaranteed to raise chuckles of delight, not to mention moos, baas, oinks and more from readers and listeners alike.
