A lift the flap book for 5-7 year olds. The flaps do not so much supply surprises as enable extra information to be added to the double page spreads. The text is easy to follow and interesting, and would be good for parent and child to use together, but Wheatley has a problem illustrating some of the concepts. Her cartoons of the nerves as roads along which yellow stick men carry placard-like messages are not helpful; and I would have preferred an accurate, simplified diagram of an ear to show how it works rather than an exaggerated impression. Still, the book does show that it is fun to use your senses. This is something that young children already know but information books sometimes forget.
